CYQ’s Head of Business Development, Lori Randall, was delighted to present the breakout session ‘New skills competition for the sector – Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer’ alongside Richard Burley, Vice Principal of Burton and South Derbyshire College (formerly Head of School, City College Norwich) at the recent BCS/AOC National Sports Conference in Birmingham.
The session focused on the work carried out by City College Norwich and CYQ in developing a Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer competition for the sector. After running two successful pilots in the East region, with the support of British College Sport (BCS), the competition will now be rolled out across all BCS regions from September 2012, culminating in a national final at the BCS National Championships in 2013.
Lori and Richard were overwhelmed with the enthusiasm shown by a number of colleges and are excited to be entering the next phase of the competition’s development with such a fantastic level of support.
Entry details and competition criteria will be released over the next couple of months so stay tuned for updates in future eNews bulletins. The organisers are looking for colleges who would be interested in hosting future competitions. There are also opportunities for college staff to join the competition judging panel for the regional competitions. CYQ will also be launching a kite mark to recognise those colleges that support the competition.
If you missed Lori and Richard’s presentation and would like to find out more about entering competitors, hosting or judging, please contact Lori Randall by 10 September.
It is envisioned that over the next few years the competition will be extended to a wider reach of potential competitors from both the private and public sector and will eventually become a permanent addition to the WorldSkills competition portfolio.
CYQ were also present at the conference showcasing their latest qualification developments within the Sports Zone and meeting with both existing and prospective centres.
Thank you to all who attended.
