CYQ qualifications aligned to the European Qualifications Framework
SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure, and the European Health and Fitness Association (EHFA) have now agreed the alignment of the EHFA European standards for Fitness Instructor, Group Fitness Instructor, Aqua Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer against specific UK qualifications. These EHFA European standards are aligned to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) at Levels 3 and 4. This development comes after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between EHFA and SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council.
This means that the following CYQ qualifications will now include the EHFA logo on certification:
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing Gym (aligns to EQF Level 3 Fitness Instructor)
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing ETM (aligns to EQF Level 3 Group Fitness Instructor)
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing Water Based Exercise (aligns to EQF Level 3 Aqua Fitness Instructor)
- Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (aligns to EQF Level 4 Personal Trainer)
Benefits for your centre and your learners
As recognition of EHFA grows around Europe, EHFA recognition will become increasingly desirable for instructors wishing to work internationally. Learners who have achieved these qualifications are eligible for membership of EREPs, the Europe-wide exercise register, if they have an address in Europe. Learners who do not have a European address should of course continue to register with REPs UK.
As an approved CYQ centre, you can use the EHFA logo for promotional activities relating to the qualifications shown above. The agreement between EHFA and SkillsActive does not permit centres to use the logo on their own certificates.
EHFA and CYQ
We have been involved with the EHFA project since its inception providing technical expertise, support and advice. EHFA used CYQ’s Level 2 and 3 qualifications as benchmarks when creating their standards. CYQ is the official accreditation unit of EHFA, verifying training provision of fitness training organisations across Europe.
