Diploma in Exercise and Fitness Instructing
This comprehensive and flexible qualification is designed to thoroughly prepare candidates for employment in the health and fitness industry.
The Diploma is based upon three mandatory units:
- Certificate in Fitness Instructing (in the context of Gym or Exercise to Music)
- Understanding the Fitness, Leisure and Recreation Industry
- Award in Circuit Training
A range of Level 2 and 3 optional units can then be selected to complete the Diploma. There are 11 optional units which allow a variety of routes for candidates to follow and subject areas in which to specialise.
Candidates will learn:
- Exercise and fitness knowledge
- How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise sessions in a variety of disciplines
- The principles of training
- How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels
- How to use a range of teaching skills
- The body’s systems and its response to exercise
- Health and safety factors
- How to motivate and support clients
- Employment rights and responsibilities
- Employment law and other legislation
- The importance of conforming to the FIA Code of Practice
- Public law and policies
- Where to source information and advice on the fitness industry
