CYQ launch new qualifications for the QCF

Printer-friendly version

CYQ has launched a major new suite of fitness instructing and personal training qualifications.

CYQ's first QCF qualifications are launchedThe updated qualifications are accredited on the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) which is replacing the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at the end of the year. The new "licence to practice" qualifications are also aligned with the updated REPs structure at Level 2 and Level 3.

CYQ has also developed new Level 1 qualifications which provide a foundation for those who are interested in exploring a career within the health and fitness industry; they address key issues such as physical activity, healthy weight and lifestyle management.

The QCF represents the greatest change in vocational qualifications for many years. The new framework gives learners the flexibility to build up credits at their own pace, fit study around their home and work lives, and avoid having to repeat prior learning. Training providers benefit from being able to better tailor learning and have access to a wider range of accredited courses.

Jenny Patrickson, Director of Awarding at CYQ, said:

"In order to develop these new fit-for purpose qualifications we have engaged with employers, training providers and learners to ensure that they meet the needs of today's health and fitness industry. This is a significant new launch for CYQ, heralding exciting opportunities for employers and our learners."

Flexibility

The flexibility of the QCF allows awarding organisations to develop bespoke qualifications tailored to the needs of individual employers and training providers. As part of their employer engagement programme, CYQ will be working with a variety of organisations to design additional unit-based qualifications that further meet the needs of employers.

Lori Randall, Director of Business Development at CYQ, explains:

"Although the implementation of the QCF presents the greatest challenge that CYQ has faced during our 12 years as a specialist health and fitness awarding body (it has entailed the redevelopment of our full suite of 40 qualifications), it also provides great new opportunities and it will allow us to produce innovative unit based qualifications that continue to meet the needs of our industry."
