Code of Practice FAQs

How long will the assessment take?

This will vary from site to site, but should take no longer than half a day. By centrally gathering the required information and paperwork in advance, the time taken will be greatly reduced.

Who will need to be present from our Club/Centre?

Due to the varied nature of the subject matter covered, it would be best wherever possible to have those staff responsible for the different areas available for you to draw upon their knowledge when necessary. The evaluator also needs to speak to members of staff.

Will we be sent the full criteria in advance in order to prepare?

It is recommended that you read the Code of Practice Evaluation Checklist prior to your site visit. Please contact the FIA to obtain your copy.

What documentation/evidence will we need to make available?

All documents listed in the suggested evidence for each section will be required, including signed check sheets, legal documents and signed training records. Further information will be requested verbally by the assessor.

Please note that you will be required to provide evidence of implementation. Documents alone will not suffice.

To which areas of the site will the assessor need access?

All areas covered by the questions will be inspected by the assessor – particularly, the pool/spa area, plant room and gym.

When and how will we hear if our Club/Centre is compliant?

You will provisionally know your result on the day of the evaluation, but you will be contacted officially within 10 working days of your evaluation.

Should we fall short of compliance, what is the referral period for making corrections and will we have to go through the entire assessment process again?

This will depend on the extent of non-compliance. Where possible the re-evaluation will be carried out by desk-based evaluation.

If we achieve compliance, will we receive documentation to demonstrate our FIA compliance?

You will receive a letter of compliance and a plaque which can be displayed. You will also be able to advertise your compliance once you have received confirmation of success.

For how long is our Club/Centre compliant?

Compliance lasts for two years from the date of evaluation.
